FSD seizes adulterated ghee, honey

Srinagar, Jan 12: The Food Safety Department today carried out a major enforcement drive against food adulteration, seizing several kilograms of honey and ghee.
Officials said that the drive was conducted Barthana area of Qamarwari, seizing large quantities of suspected adulterated food items.
During the raid, officials seized 36 kilograms of ghee and 15 kilograms of honey, which were found to be falsely labelled and marketed as Kashmiri ghee and honey.
The seized items were taken into custody and samples have been dispatched to the laboratory for detailed analysis to ascertain their quality and authenticity.
Officials also recovered “objectionable substances” suspected to be adulterants used in ghee, along with sugar packs and honey believed to be intended for use in the adulteration process.
Acting on the findings, the department sealed one room in Barthana area where the suspected adulterated stock was being stored.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Yameen ul Nabi, in coordination with Police Station Qamarwari.
