JAMMU, Dec 30: Department of Labour & Employment today organized an awareness-cum-interactive session at the premises of Labour Sarai, Dogra Hall, Jammu, with the objective of disseminating comprehensive information regarding the four newly implemented Labour Codes and their far-reaching implications for workers, employers and industrial establishments.
The programme was aimed at enhancing understanding of the recent labour reforms, particularly the Code on Wages, 2019; the Industrial Relations Code, 2020; the Code on Social Security, 2020; and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.
The Conference was attended by the Deputy Labour Commissioner (DLC) Jammu, Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Jammu, Labour officers, along with representatives from various trade unions and industrial stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Labour Commissioner highlighted that the newly enacted labour codes are designed to promote the growth of industrial and commercial activities by fostering a harmonious relationship between employers and workers. He emphasized that the codes provide statutory protection to workmen through preventive, conciliatory, adjudicatory, and punitive mechanisms, while also promoting welfare measures to alleviate the hardships of the working class.
During the interactive session, representatives of different trade unions actively participated and raised several suggestions, observations, and concerns related to implementation and worker welfare. The officials assured that all feedback was carefully noted and would be considered during the rollout and enforcement of the labour reforms.
Trade union leaders were urged to play a proactive role in disseminating information about the new labour codes among workers and other stakeholders at the grassroots level, so that the intended benefits reach the maximum number of beneficiaries.
The Department reiterated its firm commitment to safeguarding labour rights while simultaneously promoting ease of doing business, and assured continued engagement with all stakeholders through such awareness programmes in the future.
