Two houses gutted, 1 injured

KISHTWAR, Dec 21: Two residential houses along with household items were gutted while a person was injured in twin fire incidents here today.

Locals informed that two multi-storey residential houses in Shannan area of Kishtwar were burnt along with the valuable household goods kept inside.
After fire started in the morning with a short circuit it suddenly engulfed the residential houses of Diwan Chand, son of late Jagat Ram Parihar, resident of Anai Shanan and Ram Devi, wife of late Som Nath, resident of Anai.
Noting flames the locals immediately swung into action and fire brigade was also called from Kishtwar.
The locals, cops and PHE staff also joined the rescue operation but by the time the flames were brought under control, both the houses had suffered heavy damage.
In the evening, fire broke out in the room of a house near the Bus Stand Kishtwar due to gas leak.
However the fire was brought under control due to quick action by locals, cops and Fire and Emergency Services team.
Besides damage to the structure, one person was injured in the incident and he was taken to the District Hospital Kishtwar for treatment.
He was identified as Riaz Ahmed, 35, resident of Chatroo and he was out of danger till last reports.
