RAJOURI, Dec 19: Demanding immediate intervention, residents of Dhanoure-Dhindian Panchayat have urged the district administration and the Jammu and Kashmir Government to take urgent steps for the repair and upgradation of a vital stretch of the Rajouri-Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) road, which continues to remain in a highly dilapidated condition despite the main road having been completed nearly a year ago.
The affected portion of the road, stretching from Dhanoure Jaralan Primary School up to the approach road leading to BGSBU, has reportedly been in a deplorable state for almost a decade. Locals pointed out that the stretch passes through a densely populated area and caters to heavy daily traffic, yet it has remained neglected even as other sections of the road have been improved.
The poor condition of the road has emerged as a major cause of concern for residents, daily commuters and students. The stretch is frequently used by school buses as well as buses ferrying students to Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, putting the safety of students, drivers and passengers at serious risk. Deep potholes and a badly damaged surface have made the road extremely unsafe, particularly during peak hours.
Due to repeated difficulties, many drivers have reportedly started avoiding the route altogether, adding to the inconvenience faced by locals and disrupting normal traffic flow. The deteriorated condition of the road has not only affected connectivity but has also heightened the risk of accidents, triggering widespread resentment among the public.
Residents stressed that the road serves as a crucial approach to BGSBU and that its continued neglect undermines public safety and access to an important educational institution. Warning that further delay could aggravate public hardship and disrupt daily life, they demanded urgent repairs and proper upgradation of the long-neglected stretch and called upon the authorities to initiate corrective measures without any further delay.
