Srinagar, Dec 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s J&K unit today raised concerns over unregistered NGOs and trusts operating in the Union Territory, demanding strict vigilance against entities “involved in funding anti-national elements.”
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, BJP J&K State spokesperson Altaf Thakur emphasised the need for comprehensive monitoring of both registered and unregistered organisations operating in the UT.

“The Central and UT Government must keep a close watch on the financial transactions and motives of these organisations. The security and integrity of the nation cannot be compromised,” Thakur said.
He urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to take stringent action against unregistered non-Governmental organisations operating across J&K, alleging that “several such entities are engaged in suspicious financial transactions linked to anti-national elements.”
Thakur expressed concern over NGOs and trusts allegedly operating under the guise of social welfare while “channelling funds to elements working against national interests.”
He said such organisations should be kept under strict surveillance to “curb anti-national activities.”
“There are individuals operating behind the facade of humanitarian work who are covertly supporting anti-national and terror networks through various means. They will not be allowed to disturb peace in J&K,” he said.
Another BJP leader, Sahil Bashir said the demand assumes significance at a time when efforts are being intensified to restore and maintain peace in the Valley and across the country.
“We cannot allow vested interests—whether organisations or individuals—to undermine collective efforts towards stability, peace and development,” Bashir said.
The party called upon the MHA and security agencies to establish a robust monitoring mechanism to track the financial operations of NGOs, including scrutiny of funding sources, expenditure patterns and ground-level activities.
BJP State Co-Media Incharge Sajid Yousuf Shah underlined the importance of transparency in NGO functioning.
