Afghan FM says future of national development depends on bolstering learning across studies

KABUL, Dec 11: Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi said that the future of the nation’s development and advancement depends on strengthening its education in both religious and contemporary studies, viewing both aspects as being equally important.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony for Huffaz at Riyaz-ul-Uloom on Thursday, Muttaqi remarked that the foundations of learning in Afghanistan are “growing stronger each day,” citing progress in both religious seminaries and contemporary academic disciplines, reports state media.

Stressing the importance of a balanced interdisciplinary academic framework which integrates Islamic doctrine with modern-day subjects and critical thinking, Muttaqi said that Afghanistan can only advance and “be freed from oppression” when its people gain expertise in both domains.

Stating that the country needs not only religious scholars but also professionals such as doctors, engineers, and scientists, Muttaqi said the Islamic Emirate was working “day and night” to expand educational opportunities nationwide, and support the development of skilled Afghans across all sectors.

Remarking on the Islamic Emirate’s vision for the country, Muttaqi said the Taliban wants Afghanistan to become a bastion of holistic learning with an inclusive integrated balanced academic framework, where people from across the world would one day come to learn both religious doctrine and modern sciences.
