JAMMU, Dec 10: Mission Shakti, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Jammu, organized a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Session at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Chowki Choura, aimed at empowering adolescent girls with essential knowledge on menstrual health, hygiene, and overall wellbeing.
The awareness programme is part of Mission Shakti’s ongoing efforts to promote health literacy, dignity, and confidence among young girls. District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, Ms. Shagun Manchanda, sensitized students on key topics including the physiology of menstruation, the importance of maintaining hygiene, safe disposal practices, and the need to break social taboos surrounding menstruation. Practical demonstrations on the correct use of sanitary products were also provided to ensure students receive clear and actionable guidance.
The session encouraged open and interactive dialogue, allowing students to freely express their concerns and clarify long-held myths related to menstruation. The event concluded with the distribution of sanitary napkins to all participating students.
Principal GHSS Chowki Choura Jatpal Jalotra, appreciated the initiative and lauded Mission Shakti Jammu for reaching out to rural schools with meaningful awareness programmes that promote community health, gender sensitivity, and empowerment.
