SRINAGAR, Dec 6: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, today directed officers to prioritise key public routes-particularly those connecting hospitals, ration depots, shrines, and Government institutions-to ensure uninterrupted accessibility during snowfall.
The directive came during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Commissioner at the SMC Central Office in Karan Nagar to assess the Corporation’s preparedness for snow-clearance and dewatering operations ahead of the winter season.
The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioners, Executive Engineers, the Chief Sanitation Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Stores Officer and other senior officials.
During the meeting, the Commissioner reviewed a comprehensive deployment plan for workforce and machinery across all municipal wards to ensure timely and efficient snow clearance.
Highlighting SMC’s enhanced capabilities, he said the Corporation is equipped with state-of-the-art snow-clearance machinery, advanced dewatering systems, and modern mobility support, enabling it to respond swiftly to winter-related challenges.
To ensure seamless coordination, he directed the Snow Monitoring Committee and the 24×7 Control Room to maintain full operational readiness.
“The 24×7 Control Room must remain proactive and responsive to public concerns, ensuring immediate action on snow-clearance and related issues,” he said.
On dewatering preparedness, the Commissioner instructed officials to keep all permanent dewatering stations in optimal working condition and ensure rapid deployment of high-capacity mobile pumps in vulnerable and low-lying areas to mitigate waterlogging.
