One held with over 5 Kg contraband substance in Anantnag

JAMMU, Nov 19: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag town have arrested an absconder and recovered over 5 kilograms of the contraband substance from his possession.
Mukhtar Ahmad Haji of Bonagund, Verinag, was arrested with 5.18 Kilograms of the contraband substance by a team of Police Post Verinag, a police official said.
He said the accused had concealed the contraband substance in a tin shed near his residence.
The police official said that post recovery, the accused individual was booked in case FIR number 110/2025 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Dooru and further investigation taken up.
He further said the consignment-a nylon bag containing cannabis leaves with seeds and top-like material in half-dried and half-crushed form-was sealed in the presence of Executive Magistrate Dooru, Lambardar and the concerned Chowkidar.
Meanwhile, further investigation has been taken up to identify the other individuals involved in the drug trade and to dismantle the supply chain.
