JAMMU, Oct 18: Three-day relay fast by Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) at Shahidi Sthal, GGM Science College Jammu, concluded today with solemn tribute to the student martyrs of 1966 who laid down their lives for the cause of higher education in Jammu.
The fast was held to commemorate the sacrifices of the brave students who fought for the establishment of University of Jammu, Government Medical College Jammu, and SKUAST-Jammu, as well as to protest against the then relocation of the Agriculture University from Jammu to Kashmir.

The fast observance culminated with a Havan Yajna and Purn Ahuti ceremony at Shaheedi Sthal, where floral tributes were offered to the martyrs. The event witnessed the participation of senior academicians, JJSF leaders, and student activists who paid homage to the selfless sacrifices that shaped Jammu’s educational landscape.
Prominent among those present on the concluding day included Dr Vinod Bakshi, Director, Physical Education & Sports, Cluster University of Jammu; Prof Devinder Kumar Sharma; Dr Rahul Kaith; Atul Sudan, State Vice President, JJSF; Keshav Malhotra, District President, JJSF; Harish Sharma, Convenor, ABVP Jammu Province; along with several student leaders and faculty members who served juice to the fasting students as a symbolic conclusion of the fast.
Dr Vinod Bakshi, while addressing the gathering, lauded the unwavering spirit and commitment of JJSF activists, stating that “the sacrifices of these student martyrs are the cornerstone of Jammu’s educational progress.”
Keshav Malhotra, District President, JJSF, expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of Shaheedi Sthal, calling for its immediate restoration. Atul Sudan, State Vice President, JJSF, reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to uphold the legacy of the student martyrs.
Students who observed the three-day fast from October 16 to 18, included Ritik Verma, Gourav Sharma, Anmol Sharma, Sahil, and Navi Jasrotia.
The three-day observance concluded with a collective pledge by JJSF leaders and students to continue the movement for strengthening educational infrastructure in Jammu and to ensure that the sacrifices of the student martyrs remain immortal in the hearts of the people.
