JAMMU, Oct 14: Bharat Nagar Enclave Bantalab which is in the heart of Ward 63 Keran Bantalab has neither been owned by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) nor Rural Development Department (RDD) with the result the area remains deprived of the basic necessities of life for a pretty long time.
According to Bharat Nagar Enclave Residents Welfare Committee, the area has been totally neglected and it sans the basic development like proper roads, lanes and drains as both JMC as well as RDD are not ready to won the area creating a perplexed situation for the people of the locality.
The residents, while expressing grave concern over lack of basic amenities said that it is a matter of grave concern that the area does not fall under the Municipal limits while areas surrounding the enclave are part of JMC Ward.
They said the Welfare Committee had approached Department of Public Grievances through its president, M K Pandita for the failure of the PWD in construction of lanes and by-lanes in the area. However to their dismay the PWD submitted that the repair and renovation work of lanes and by lanes below 18 feet width will either be taken by Municipality or RDD.
They said since the Bharat Nagar Enclave does not fall in the JMC the grievance was forwarded to BDO Kot Bhalwal in Panchayat Keran. However the BDO stated that the area does not fall in the jurisdiction of Kot Bhalwal Block which is highly disgusting.
The residents said the response given by RDD is completely unjustified and unsatisfactory as the area is within the jurisdiction of Kot Bhalwal.
They said that there is lot of resentment among the people over the dilapidated condition of lanes and by lanes in the area which have not been constructed for decades. In an appeal the residents have sought the immediate intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah towards the plight of the people of the area and demanded blacktopping of lanes and by lanes as well as redressal of other issues immediately.
