JAMMU, Sept 21: Brig Anil Gupta, a security & strategic analyst and senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir, has said that the recent tightening of H1-B visa rules by the United States could ultimately prove beneficial for India by curbing brain drain and opening new opportunities for the country’s technology sector.
Reacting to the political controversy around the issue, Brig Gupta asserted that immigration is a “domestic and internal matter of the USA,” over which no foreign Government, including India, can exert influence. “The order has been issued through a Presidential proclamation and is driven by President Trump’s advisors such as Stephen Miller, a known anti-immigration hardliner. Hence, blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi or India’s foreign policy is misleading and politically motivated,” he said.
He accused the Opposition of attempting to exploit the development for political gains by projecting it as a foreign policy failure and trying to create unrest among the youth. According to him, the narrative of “killing the American dream” is being used as a slogan to instigate job aspirants and spread anti-Government hysteria ahead of elections.
Highlighting the positive side, Brig Gupta said the new visa curbs may prompt US tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, and Qualcomm to expand their operations in India. With many companies already maintaining strong bases in Indian hi-tech cities, increased local hiring could strengthen India’s position as a global technology hub, reduce dependency on overseas markets, and encourage the rise of start-ups.
“Every dark cloud has a silver lining. These visa curbs may not only put an end to the brain drain but also open new avenues of growth and diversification for India’s IT industry,” Brig Gupta said, adding that the Opposition’s attempts to turn the issue into a political weapon were aimed at creating unnecessary panic.
