AYODHYA, Sep 21: The divine play of Lord Ram, Ramlila, has begun in Ayodhya, while preparations for Durga Puja, which starts tomorrow, have been completed.
The Central Durga Puja and Ramlila Committee has requested that the Chief Minister shower flowers from a helicopter on both the Goddess Durga idol procession and the coronation procession of Lord Rama.
According to officials, Ramlila performances will be held at 180 locations across Ayodhya district, and Goddess Durga idols will be installed in 2,154 pandals.
Vijay Gupta, a patron of the committee, confirmed that all preparations are complete. He said the committee held several meetings with the district administration and government departments to finalise arrangements.
Sculptors from Kolkata are creating the Durga idols. One such sculptor, Swapan Pal, said the idols have been given their final shape and are being rapidly installed by many Durga Puja committees.
Keshav Bigular, a spokesperson for the committee, said a grand procession will be taken out from the GIC ground on October 2. The idols will be immersed in Nirmali Kund at Guptar Ghat, which is eight kilometres away.
He noted that during an inspection, it was found that the water level of the Saryu river in Nirmali Kund is only one foot.
