ACB arrests 2 PDD officials

SRINAGAR, Sept 17: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested two employees of the Power Development Department (PDD) for demanding a bribe for the realignment of an electric pole.

The ACB said it received a written complaint alleging that public servants had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 for the realignment of an electric pole installed on the complainant’s property at Sempora, Pantha Chowk.
The employees have been identified as Junior Engineer Shaiq Sultan Bhat, son of Gh. Nabi Bhat, resident of Sanat Nagar, Srinagar, and Sectional Officer Mohammad Ayoub Dar, son of Gh. Nabi Dar, resident of Sail, tehsil Awantipora, district Pulwama, both posted at the PDD Division Pantha Chowk.
“Consequent upon the information and in order to verify the allegations leveled against the public servants, the matter was discreetly verified through a designated officer of ACB Srinagar,” the ACB said.
On the basis of the complaint, findings, and recommendations of the verifying officer, offences under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61(2) of the BNS, were prima facie established against the accused public servants, the bureau stated.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 18/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, read with Section 61(2) of the BNS, was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted and deputed to Pantha Chowk for laying a trap and to arrest these public servants involved in the commission of crime.
The team laid a successful trap and both public servants were apprehended red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.
“The bribe money of Rs 50,000 was recovered on the spot from their possession. Further investigation into the case is going on,” the ACB said.
