Mughal Road be developed as alternative: MP

Srinagar, Sept 16: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad today said that the only viable solution to the recurring problems on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway is to develop and maintain the Mughal Road as a dependable alternative.
“I have been saying that Mughal Road is the critical alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. There is a need to improve it and ensure its regular maintenance,” Altaf told reporters.

He said the Government must act swiftly to ensure smooth traffic management.
“If NH-44 is not restored immediately, traffic should be diverted via the Mughal Road,” he said.
Taking the Mughal Road, he said, may take three hours more, but it will not affect fruit growers or other transporters as badly as prolonged highway closures do. “There is no better solution,” he said.
The MP also stressed the need to strengthen recently started parcel train services.
“The carrying capacity of trains must be increased, and more trains should run so that people are able to transport their goods. If people are demanding an increase in the capacity, their concerns are genuine,” he said.
