JAMMU, Sept 15: The Institute of Engineers (India) and various bodies of engineers today celebrated 58th Engineers’ Day with great enthusiasm.
This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 164th birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre, celebrated the day at its Institutional Complex, Jammu, wherein Dy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary was the chief guest while Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation was the guest of honour.
Surinder Choudhary paid rich tributes and honoured the legacy of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya. He insisted the young and serving engineers to work with dedication, zeal and enthusiasm.
Dr Devansh Yadav highlighted the contributions of Sir M Visvesvarya. He called upon the engineers to learn the ideals of honesty and integrity from him so as to overcome the day-to-day challenges by blending technology and innovation so as to provide a sustainable future.
Chairman Anil Verma exhorted engineers and technologists to give their best to steer the nation ahead in growth & development. B B Sharma, former Chairman, IE (India), Jammu Local Centre, was honoured with IEI Award posthumously. Mohinder Singh was honoured with “D K Gupta Memorial Engineer of the Year Award. IEI, Jammu also presented R L Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Ra jeev Sawhney for presenting the Best Technical Paper, Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to P K Nanda for presenting 2nd Best Technical Paper and IEI Bronze Medal to Anil Kumar for presenting 3rd Best Technical Paper during the year 2024-25.
On the occasion, first issue of 23rd volume of quarterly newsletter of Jammu Centre was also released. Also, a book titled “Musings Unabated” authored by L K Mengi, former MD, J&K Housing Board, was released.
IEI also honoured P K Nanda, B L Rawal, Ranjeev Sawhney, Sachin Tickoo, Heemdeep Singh, Joy Ganjoo, Akash Dusgotra & Anil Kumar.
Avneet Gupta, MIE; Honorary Secretary of the centre, conducted proceedings of the function.
The Golden Day Care Centre for Senior Citizens, Lower Roop Nagar, Jammu, celebrated Engineers’ Day by organizing a grand event wherein MLA Jammu East, Sham Lal Sharma was the chief guest while Nawaz Shareef, District Social Welfare Officer, Jammu was the guest of honour.
Sham Lal Sharma hailed the engineers as true nation-builders who work silently yet contribute enormously in shaping the infrastructure and progress of society. He particularly acknowledged the engineers of Jammu & Kashmir for their relentless service in the PWD, PDD and PHE. He noted their exemplary commitment in restoring essential services like water, power, and roads during recent calamities, reflecting both dedication and resilience.
Department of Civil Engineering, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) celebrated Engineers’ Day by organizing a series of events, including interactive sessions, lectures and discussions highlighting the contribution of engineers in nation-building and technological advancement.
Registrar BGSBU Abhishek Sharma delivered a special lecture to the 7th semester Civil Engineering students, wherein he shared insights on professional ethics, innovation in engineering, and the importance of adopting modern practices to address contemporary challenges.
The Students’ Chapter of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar organized Engineers’ Day celebrations. The program featured a keynote address by Rajat Srivastava from the Ministry of Good Governance, who highlighted the role of engineers in shaping the future of the nation.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof Binod Kumar Kanaujia said Engineers’ Day was an occasion to reflect on the vision and values of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent through such platforms.
The Department of Civil Engineering in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) commemorated Engineers’ Day-2025 at Tulmulla Campus.
Addressing the participants, Vice Chancellor, Prof A Ravinder Nath, highlighted the pivotal role of engineers in nation-building. He emphasized that engineering education must move beyond theoretical knowledge to incorporate practical, problem-solving approaches that address real-life challenges. Guest of honour, Iftikhar Kakroo, Chairman of the JKWRRA, spoke on the multifaceted role of engineers in shaping society-ranging from simple innovations like matchsticks to complex developments such as pacemakers and large dams. Prof Chiranjeev Kumar, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Dhanbad, delivered keynote address on the theme, “Emerging Technologies in Digital Business.”
