JAMMU, Sept 5: Jammu and Kashmir BJP Media Incharge Dr Pardeep Mahotra today stressed the urgent need for massive public awareness and proactive administrative support to save lives in the crucial golden hours after road accidents.
However, Mahotra welcomed the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s decision to increase the cash reward for Good Samaritans from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 and termed the move both courageous and compassionate.
In a handout issued, he said, “The step would not only motivate citizens to extend timely help to accident victims but also remove the fear of police, courts, and harassment that has long deterred people from stepping forward. This decision breaks the mental barrier that has cost us so many lives. Now, it is the responsibility of local administrations, police and hospitals to ensure smooth implementation of this policy and guarantee the rights and protection of those who come forward to help.”
Mahotra further lauded PM Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership under which and said, “Several progressive reforms have been undertaken to safeguard citizens’ lives from stricter road safety laws to nationwide awareness campaigns. The increased Good Samaritan reward is another example of people-centric governance where compassion and courage are prioritized.”
“The law must not remain on paper, it must be practiced effectively. No life should be lost just because someone was afraid to help. Compassion must be made safe, and kindness must be rewarding,” he remarked.
