4 arrested for sacrilegious acts in Sheetal Nagari, Patnitop

JAMMU, July 30: With the arrest of two more persons responsible for sacrilegious act of July 28 at Jannu village in Sheetal Nagri (Bhoondh) area of Basohli tehsil of Kathua district today, the three day long bandh in Basohli and adjoining towns was called off this evening.
The DIG, Jammu-Kathua Range Shakeel Ahmed Baig, Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Shahid Iqbal, SSP Kathua, Mohan Lal along with other civil and police officers visited Basohli today and organised a meeting of prominent people of both the communities in the Ramleela Ground Basohli seeking their cooperation in normalizing the situation.
The meeting was also attended by MLA Basohli, Jagdish Raj Sapolia, former Minister Prem Sagar Aziz, representatives of various other political, social and religious organizations and members of Beopar Mandal.
The authorities informed the people that two more persons responsible for sacrilegious act on July 28 in Sheetal Nagri area have been arrested and they will be punished under law. On this announcement people agreed to call off the bandh.
The two persons who were arrested for sacrilegious act by Basohli Police included Manzoor Ahmed and Mohammed Saleem of Janoo village and cases under various sections have been registered against them.
SSP Kathua Mohan Lal told Excelsior that on this assurance people agreed to call off the bandh and open their business establishments in the town as normal.
Meanwhile the situation remained calm in Sheetal Nagari for second day today where the violence had broken out soon after the sacrilegious act on July 28. The SSP also visited the area in the morning to monitor the situation there. He said meeting of both the communities was also convened by him at Sheetal Nagri also and people were asked to maintain age-old peace, tranquility and brotherhood.
Ruling out that the fire incident at Mata Nagrota in Billawar area was linked to any sabotage, he said the police is investigating the matter as the fire broke out in the mobile shop under mysterious circumstances as the shutters of the shop were totally closed.
Meanwhile, police has arrested two persons in connection with sacrilegious act in Patnitop area of Ramban district yesterday sparking off wide spread protests.
The SSP Ramban Javed Mattoo said that both the culprits responsible for sacrilegious act have been arrested by the police for disturbing peace and communal harmony.
He said special teams were constituted and both the accused namely Farooq Ahmed and Mohammed Yousf residents of Udhampur who were presently living in Shibgarh area of Dhar near Patnitop were arrested.
He said cases under various sections have been registered against them and investigations started.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, R A Inqalabi said the situation in Ramban, Batote and Patnitop area remained peaceful today with the timely action of administration which arrested both the culprits immediately.
