BANDIPORA, Aug 20: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organised a Legal Awareness Programme specifically designed for tribal students of the district at Gujjar and Bakarwal Boys Hostel, here today.
The programme was held under the visionary leadership of Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority) and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority,
The event was organized under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and J&K Legal Services Authority to promote legal empowerment and spread awareness of legal rights and entitlements among underprivileged communities.
Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, DLSA) addressed the gathering as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary emphasised the importance of legal awareness in fostering social justice and equality, especially for marginalized sections like the tribal population.
“It is essential for every citizen, particularly the youth, to be aware of their rights and responsibilities. Legal literacy is a powerful tool to bridge the gap between communities and justice delivery mechanisms,” he said.
Choudhary also elaborated on the various schemes of NALSA and DLSA, including free legal aid, victim compensation and rights related to education, health and protection from exploitation.
He encouraged students to act as ambassadors of legal awareness in their respective communities and to approach DLSA without hesitation whenever they need legal guidance or support.
A large number of tribal students and teachers participated in the programme, making it a successful and impactful initiative.
