Drone flown over Ramgarh dam as preparatory drill for cloud seeding

JAIPUR, Aug 16: A preparatory drill for inducing artificial rains by cloud seeding continued with an exploratory drone flown over Ramgarh dam near here today to assess the meteorological and climatic conditions and collect the requisite data.

The scientists of the US-based Climate Engineering Company -“Accel1” and officials of the Agriculture Department reached the Ramgarh dam site and flew the drone over the dam for 35 minutes.

The drone covered area of 25 km area to facilitate scientists to assess the climatic conditions and other related data.

Local BJP MLA Mahendra Meena and his party followers were present. This drill is the part of a pilot project that explores the viability of inducing rains by cloud seeding over the dam that has been dried up for the past 20 years.

Initially the attempts for inducing rains here were scheduled for July 30. However, it was deferred for August 12. On August 12, a big crowd of spectators gathered at the venue. The conflicting internet signals from the mobiles-smart phones of the spectators blocked the signals connecting the drone, and the drone could not be launched.

Agriculture Minister Dr Kirodi Lal Meena has announced that the drill would continue for the next two months.

The first artificial rain was induced in Kerala by using aeroplane for cloud seeding. Use of drones for cloud seeding to induce rains is being tried here for the first time in the country.
