UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: Udhampur Police today arrested two inter-district narco smugglers and recovered 125-84 grams of heroin besides attaching property of another drug peddler under NDPS Act.
A police team from PS Udhampur, led by SHO, Raghubir Singh, stopped a vehicle (JK02DA-5332) coming from Jammu. During checking, 59.22 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the driver and 66.62 grams from the co-driver. Both were arrested on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Mukhtiar Ahmed, son of Mohd Rashid, resident of Karmara, District Poonch and Nazakat Hussain, son of Allah Din, resident of Jhulas, District Poonch.
It is pertinent to mention that Mukhtiar Ahmed (driver) was earlier arrested in FIR No. 212/2024 under the NDPS Act of PS Rehambal. In that case, there were three accused two of whom, including him, were granted bail. Udhampur Police had also attached his property in Poonch. Despite this, he continued his illegal activities and has again been arrested today in another NDPS case
In this regard, a case FIR No. 292/2025 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Udhampur and investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, Udhampur Police attached property worth approximately Rs 10 lakhs belonging to a local drug peddler namely Vikrant Sharma , son of Narinder Sharma , resident of Ward No. 9, Chabutra Bazar, Udhampur.
The action has been taken under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act in connection with FIR No. 15/2025 registered at Police Station Rehambal under sections 8/21/22/27-A/29 of the NDPS Act. The attached property includes J&K Bank account containing Rs 7,17,118/ and one Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle bearing registration number JK14J-0690.
