SRINAGAR, July 26: While accusing others of not making “serious efforts,” J&K Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari today said that his party is strengthening its base to launch a struggle for the restoration of Statehood to J&K.
Speaking to reporters after a workers’ convention here, Bukhari said that political leaders must come together and pressurize the Centre for the restoration of statehood.
“Everyone is busy scoring points and not putting in serious efforts in this direction. If anyone is serious about Statehood, it is the Apni Party. We are strengthening the party to launch a struggle for the restoration of Statehood and other rights that were snatched from us. We may be weak now, but we will grow stronger, and people will continue joining us,” he said. Click here to watch video
On the occasion, Sarwar Mufti – a cousin of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti – along with dozens of his associates from the Srigufwara-Bijbehara Assembly constituency formally joined the Apni Party.
Bukhari on the occasion said that the PDP served only its own interests and not those of the people, adding that the PDP is no longer the party it was during the time of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Taking a dig at traditional political parties, Bukhari said that over the past several decades, these parties have “sold everything to New Delhi.”
On the killing of a youth in Jammu, he said that the policemen who have been suspended should also be named in the FIR.
“Suspension itself means the Government believes they are at fault. The Government should consider that. It is a murder, and the circumstances have to be ascertained,” he said.
