Sir,
The article “Transforming Indian Defence” (July 12) rightly underscores a crucial shift in India’s military doctrine—one that places technology at the heart of national security. The Army’s initiative to adopt 33 niche technologies and convert training centres into Centres of Expertise is a visionary step toward future warfare preparedness. Drones, AI, and cyber capabilities are no longer optional—they are essential.
Equally important is the emphasis on massive retraining and ethical protocols, especially as lethal autonomous systems emerge. The call for a “Whole of Nation” approach, leveraging startups and research institutions, is commendable and must be sustained through consistent policy and funding support. India must not just prepare for the wars of tomorrow—it must shape how they are fought. This technological pivot will define our strategic edge in a rapidly evolving global security environment.
