Bomb threat to Sri Harmandir Sahib s Langar hall triggers high alert

CHANDIGARH, July 14: A bomb threat targeting the Langar Hall of the sacred Sri Harmandir Sahib has triggered a security alert in Amritsar.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has filed a formal complaint with the police after receiving an anonymous email warning of a bomb attack using explosives.
Confirming the development, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said, “The SGPC informed us about a threatening email. Taking immediate cognizance, we have registered an FIR and launched an investigation.”
The State Cyber Crime Unit, Intelligence agencies, and other security departments have been roped in to trace the origin of the email. Simultaneously, bomb disposal squads and sniffer dog teams conducted a thorough search of the Langar Hall and surrounding premises.
Commissioner Bhullar urged the public to remain calm, stating, “There is no need to panic. We suspect the email may have been sent by a mischievous element. However, we are taking it very seriously and are confident of cracking the case soon.
He added that ensuring the safety of Amritsar’s citizens and sacred religious sites remains the administration’s top priority. The SGPC has also stepped-up internal surveillance to safeguard the sanctity of holy places.
Police continue to investigate the source of the email and are treating the case with utmost seriousness.
