Leh, July 9: After remaining shut for nearly 35 hours, all business establishments in Leh reopened around 4 PM today, following a meeting of all stakeholders convened under the chairmanship of LAHDC Leh Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Tashi Gyalson. The shutdown was called by the Merchant Association Leh in protest against alleged unfair trade practices by Mir Sales Corporation.

President of Merchant Association Leh, Tsering Angchuk, said the meeting with stakeholders was fruitful, and it was decided that Mir Sales Corporation will remain closed for the next 10 days while inquiries are initiated to resolve the matter.
The shutdown received widespread support from various trade unions and socio-religious organisations of Leh, who backed the call to close Leh market in protest against alleged malpractices that, according to the Association, threaten the interests of local retailers and the overall local economy.

“This is not a matter of locals versus non-locals. It is about safeguarding the future of small and local businesses in Ladakh,” Angchuk stated. He further alleged that similar activities by the same business operator had caused disturbances in other regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Kargil, and Srinagar.
The Association accused Mir Sales Corporation of selling goods at prices significantly below market rates, describing the practice as a business model resembling a scam.
According to sources, the CEC assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and necessary steps taken in consultation with all stakeholders to ensure fair trade practices and protection of local business interests.
