‘Stolen properties worth approx Rs 27 lakh recovered’

JAMMU, July 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed to have worked out multiple theft cases registered in Gandhi Nagar Sub-Division in the last two months by arresting 13 individuals and recovering stolen properties worth approximately Rs 27 lakh from their possession.

Addressing media persons here at Gandhi Nagar Police Station, SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma, said that separate complaints related to chain snatching incidents at Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar areas, motorcycle theft incident at Valmiki Colony, construction material theft at Main Stop Gandhi Nagar, gold theft incident at Preet Nagar, and BSNL junction boxes’ spare parts’ theft incidents were reported in the Sub-Division in the last two months.
On the basis of the written complaints, he said, separate FIRs under the relevant sections of the law were registered at Gandhi Nagar Police Station and accordingly, a team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar and supervised by SDPO City South, analysed the local CCTV footage and the smart city surveillance system to identify and arrest the accused persons.
He said two persons, including a police employee, identified as Pardeep Singh of Resham Colony, and Varinder Singh of Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, were arrested in connection with two theft incidents at Shastri Nagar and Gandhi Nagar areas and two gold chains of 5 tolas were recovered from their possession.
Similarly, the police officer said that one Mohammad Sadiq of Miran Sahib area was arrested in connection with the motorcycle theft at Valmiki Colony area and the stolen motorcycle was recovered from his possession.
Two more individuals, identified as Fazl Hussain of near Hospital, Jammu, and Chandan Kumar of Bihar, at present Greater Kailash Jammu, were arrested in connection with the construction material theft reported from Main Stop area, and the stolen construction material as well as a stolen scooty was recovered from their possession, SP Jammu South said.
Probing the BSNL junction boxes’ theft case, he said, five women, identified as Banti, Sapni, Babli, Rajani and Salochana, all residents of Barnala, Punjab, were arrested and 8-10 Kg of stolen copper wire from the boxes was recovered from their possession.
Three people, including a juvenile, were already arrested, according to the police officer, in connection with the Preet Nagar gold theft case, wherein police have recovered the stolen gold worth approximately Rs 21 lakh.
“The value of the total recovered property is around Rs 27 lakh,” the police officer said.
According to him, further investigation has been taken up in all the cases to probe the forward and backward linkages.
