SRINAGAR, June 17: The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) today declared Jammu and Kashmir safe, vibrant and fully prepared to welcome tourists following the successful completion of a four-day Familiarization (FAM) tour to Pahalgam and Srinagar from June 14 to 17.
Addressing the media here, IATO Honorary Secretary Sunil Mishra said, “Our delegation witnessed a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere at all the locations we visited. Pahalgam, Srinagar and the surrounding areas are absolutely safe for tourists. The hospitality, warmth, and preparedness of the local tourism sector are commendable.”
During the tour, the delegation interacted with hoteliers, transporters, tour operators, artisans, and Government officials. Mishra noted that stakeholders showed strong optimism and readiness to receive tourists. “The infrastructure is in place, the hospitality sector is fully geared up, and the Government is ensuring a secure and comfortable experience for visitors,” he said.
IATO President Ravi Gosain highlighted the proactive role of the Jammu and Kashmir Government, particularly the Department of Tourism, in improving accessibility, upgrading infrastructure, enhancing security, and fostering a tourist-friendly environment. “The presence of dedicated tourism officers, trained police personnel, and round-the-clock support systems instills a sense of comfort and safety for every traveler,” he said.
Gosain added that experiences across Kashmir-from the scenic Lidder Valley and tranquil shikara rides on Dal Lake to the rich heritage of Srinagar’s old city-are now marked by professionalism, safety and warmth.
The association urged its members and the global travel community to confidently promote Jammu and Kashmir as a premier tourist destination. “Kashmir is open, vibrant, and ready to host travelers. We appeal to the media and travel influencers to amplify this message and help dispel unfounded fears,” Gosain said.
IATO also said that tourism remains the backbone of the region’s economy, and every tourist visit directly contributes to local livelihoods, peace and sustainable development.
