Rail fare hike

Sir,
The recent Railway fare hike has evoked sharp protests from all parts of the country. Though passengers may feel a pinch, the hike was quite necessary as Indian Railways was running on loss. The revenue loss has stopped modernisation of the Railways.
Today Indian Railways presents a dismal picture. It is plagued with many problems and in case these are not redressed immediately, it may hit Railways terribly.
The recurring railway accidents are to be stopped by using modern technology, and ensuring accountability on the part of the Railway authorities.
There is need to check thefts. People who travel without tickets should be penalised heavily. Besides, there is urgent need to upgrade facilities for passengers. The insanitary conditions prevailing inside the cabins is a cause of concern.
The safety of passengers has to be increased by deploying more Railway Police at Railway Stations and inside the bogies.
The price hike will hurt only in case these steps are not taken.
Yours etc…
