JAMMU, Feb 14: Senior leader of the National Awami United Party (NAUP), Shikha Bandral today reiterated her demand for a complete ban on alcohol, particularly in Jammu, known as the City of Temples.
“NAUP has been opposing alcohol and drugs since its inception and has consistently raised this issue with the authorities,” she said.
Bandral was addressing to the media persons during a protest demonstration.
She expressed serious concerns over the issuance of licenses and the opening of wine shops without considering their proximity to schools and religious places.
Bandral criticized the LG Administration for failing to regulate the placement of liquor outlets, making alcohol easily accessible even to minors.
Lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), she condemned their recent calls for banning alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir.
The NAUP leader questioned their sincerity, asking, “Where were they when they were in power? Their sudden demand for a ban is nothing but a political gimmick to mislead the people.”
She further urged the Jammu and Kashmir Government to take immediate and strict action to prohibit the sale and consumption of alcohol across the region.
