Absconder held after 14 yrs, another surrenders

DODA, Jan 31: Doda Police successfully arrested an absconder who had been evading arrest for over 14 years, and compelled another to surrender.
Liyakat Hussain, wanted in connection with a case number 199/2008 under Sections 379 and 406 of the RPC at Bhaderwah Police Station, was apprehended in Rajouri and produced before the court.
According to SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta, a police team from Bhaderwah, led by Inspector Sandeep Parihar, was tasked with nabbing the long-evading accused. Utilizing a combination of human intelligence and technical resources, the team tracked down Liyakat Hussain in his native village of Sumbli Darhal (Rajouri) and successfully arrested him. He was subsequently presented before the court, bringing an end to the prolonged search.
In a separate development, Mohd Sikander, an absconder from Thathri Police Station who had been evading arrest since 2017, surrendered before the Additional Sessions Judge in Doda. Sikander, son of Gh Mohd from Kokernag, surrendered due to mounting pressure from the police. Following court directives, he has been lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
The arrests are part of a special drive initiated by Doda Police to apprehend absconders and other criminals. Special teams have been formed at the police station level to track down fugitives. Over the past three months, 12 absconders have been arrested and produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
