JAMMU, Jan 29: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jayesh Gupta has raised an urgent alarm over the escalating drug trade in Jammu and Kashmir, warning that the illegal narcotics business is not only ravaging the youth of the region but also fueling terrorism.
Gupta’s statements come amidst growing concerns about the intertwining of drug abuse and terror financing, with a clear link to Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to destabilize the region. In a strong appeal for action, Gupta emphasized that the situation in J&K has worsened in recent years, with an alarming increase in heroin addiction and drug-related crimes. He stated that the drug trade has now reached crisis levels, affecting young people who are being exploited for militant purposes.
“The growing drug menace is severely damaging the youth in J&K, and it is now closely tied to terror funding by Pakistan,” Gupta said. “Young people who fall into the grip of addiction lose their cognitive abilities and become more vulnerable to manipulation by terrorist groups. This is a clear example of how the drug trade is not just destroying lives, but it is also destabilizing the region.”
Gupta further revealed that Pakistan has been using narco-terrorism as a strategy for years, smuggling drugs into Indian Border States to fund militant activities. He explained that the drug syndicates operating in the region work in collaboration with overground workers, generating substantial profits that are used to fuel terror activities.
The AAP leader called on the J&K Government and security forces to intensify their efforts to dismantle the drug trade and its connection to terrorism. He urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat to take swift action against those facilitating the illicit drug business.
