Two bovine smugglers held, 19 animals rescued

SAMBA, Jan 15: Police in Ghagwal area here today claimed to have arrested two bovine smugglers and rescued 19 animals from their clutches.
A police official said that a truck (PB06N-8666) was signalled to stop by a team of Police Station Ghagwal under the supervision of SSP Samba Varinder Manhas during routine patrolling duty but the driver tried to escape instead by accelerating the speed of the vehicle.
However, his vehicle was chased by the alert cops and intercepted at a distance, where the driver, along with his accomplice, was arrested and 19 animals crammed inside their vehicle in a cruel manner were rescued, he said.
Accordingly, both individuals travelling in the vehicle, identified as Showkat Ali and Umer Khan, both residents of Dera Baba, tehsil and district Reasi, were arrested and booked in case FIR number 07/2025 under sections 223 BNS, 11 PCA Act, 3 PDPP Act, and 50/52/54 of the Transportation of the Animals Rules registered at Police Station Ghagwal and further investigation started, added the police official.
