SRINAGAR, Jan 15: Scores of employees from the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) staged a protest today in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, demanding an immediate processing of their seniority lists and regularization of their services.
The protest, organized under the banner of the All Jammu and Kashmir PDL/TDL Electrical Employees Union, took place in the Fatipora area of Ganderbal. The employees raised slogans in favour of their demands including regularization of their services and an expedited resolution of their seniority lists. “Our tentative seniority list was issued a year and a half ago, and the department promised to finalize it within 15 days. However, despite the passage of all this time, it remains unresolved,” Noorul Qamrain, one of the protesting employees, said.
He highlighted significant contributions of employees, saying, “Whenever the department faced tough tasks like illuminating Baltal or restoring power after snowfall, it was the PDL employees who stepped up. Even extending electricity to Gurez was made possible because of us. Yet, we are treated as the backbone only during crisis.”
Another protester expressed frustration, saying, “Our seniority list has been stuck in the department’s offices for over a year and a half. We have made numerous attempts to reach the authorities, but they have ignored us.”
The union announced the extension of their strike for a second day, warning that if their demands are not met, the responsibility for any further consequences will lie with the Power Development Department (PDD).
