JAMMU, Oct 24; A delegation of firecracker retailers met with the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation and discussed their issues.
Prior to this, the delegation had meeting with the Assistant Commissioner (G), Revenue of Jammu (the nodal officer for granting permissions for firecracker sales) and informed him about the potential losses faced by firecracker retailers.
The retailers expressed concerns about the increase in license fees and utility charges imposed by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), which could result in significant financial losses for them. They suggested that both the license fees and the increased utility charges by JMC should be minimized, as 90 percent of these retailers are educated unemployed individuals. They urged the administration to support them by reducing these charges.
The retailers also suggested that makeshift stalls at the designated locations should be constructed by JMC to provide them with some relief.
The ACG forwarded their memorandum to the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, requesting him to sympathetically consider their genuine demands and also to review their plea for constructing makeshift stalls, following the practice that was in place five years ago.
In today’s meeting with the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, the delegation presented all their issues in detail. Additionally, other matters, including concerns about potential illegal activities being conducted under the guise of business, were also discussed.
The delegation highlighted that some individuals might be using their business operations as a cover for drug trafficking, posing a serious threat. The Commissioner assured them that these points would be taken into serious consideration, and he called upon the concerned officers to discuss the matter and find a solution.
