JAMMU, Oct 3: Dr Vikas Sharma, former president of the Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA), today launched scathing attack on Jammu University (JU) authorities and Election Commission of India (ECI) for making mockery of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) rules which is currently in place in J&K owing to Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Sharma said he had learnt that the ECI authorities had categorically asked the JU authorities not to notify the result of administrative posts, interviews which are slated for October 4 & 5, but at the same time no action has been taken against the JU for declaring the results of contractual appointments.
“ECI authorities have just made a formality by passing a lame order asking JU to keep in abeyance the results of the interview. But, why ECI has not taken action against JU for declaring the result of contractual posts during the MCC which amount to its violation?” said the student leader.
Dr Sharma criticized both JU and the Election Commission, alleging they were colluding to benefit individuals affiliated with a particular political party. “Despite the MCC being in place, JU is rushing to fill long-vacant positions such as Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Director of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), and Director of IT, with interviews scheduled for October 4-5,” he stated.
Dr Sharma claimed that there are candidates with questionable qualifications, including those with fraudulent PhD degrees, as highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. He demanded from the Election Commission to take action against the JU authorities for violating MCC by declaring the results of contractual positions.
Dr Sharma also urged the public and authorities to take a stand against this alleged breach of democratic principles, vowing that protests would continue until justice is served.
