This has reference to the news item ‘Mulayam questions new anti-rape law “DE April 11.
The statement made by SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is quite outrageous and does not suit the stature of the Supremo.If leaders like Mulayam Yadav make such statements, what is expected of people who harbour anti-women notions.
The whole nation rose against horrenodous rape acts last year and it was a result of these protests that new anti-rape laws came into existence.
The publicly made statement will only embolden the anti-social elements to commit such heinous acts. Mr Yadav should have rather demanded immediate disposal of rape case, so that a sense of security is created among women folk.
If leaders like Mr Yadav can not think of improving the lot of women in India, they should at least keep mum, and let the police and judiciary do their work.
