REASI, Mar 26: In a major relief to the residents of district Reasi and pilgrims visiting the cave shrine of Shri Shiv Khori the blacktopping of Katra-Reasi road is scheduled to begin around April 15-20.
The approval to the project has been accorded by the Director General BRO. The road has remained under construction and lately abandoned by the contractor for last more than 3 years putting the commuters to risk. District administration had taken up the issue vigorously at BRO Headquarters through the Chief Secretary.
The contract has been approved and work allotted to contractor with directions to start blacktopping immediately after April 15 once the temperature improves. Meanwhile the basic work has been completed for widening and blacktopping. District Administration has been communicated by the BRO about initiation of blacktopping in April.
Addl Deputy Commissioner, Rajinder Singh Tara, who is also Collector Land Acquisition, informed that funds under land compensation have also been received from BRO and acquisition proceedings are at final stage. He will also be supervising the timely completion of work. Mr Tara added that it had been a long pending issue which the district faced and it is hoped that blacktopping of this vital road will also boost tourism apart from convenience to local residents.
