BHADERWAH, Mar 13: Tall claims of the Government of providing round the clock medical services to the patients in the far-flung areas of the State proved to be an eye-wash as due to absence of staff, life saving drugs and medicines a MBA student of Bhaderwah Campus of Jammu University, who suffered cardiac arrest late last night died at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah later.
Not only this, casual approach of the administration forced the students of the Bhaderwah campus to take out a protest rally demanding shifting of the body of the student identified as 22-year-old Vinod Singh Manhas, son of Uttam Singh Manhas of Kunjwani, Jammu to his native place through chopper.
As per sources, Vinod Singh Manhas, a second semester student of MBA at Bhaderwah Campus of Jammu University suffered a cardiac arrest on the intervening night of March 12 and 13 and was rushed to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah by his college mates.
At SDH Bhaderwah, staff, life saving drugs and oxygen were not available, which led to the death of the student, sources said, adding that the body was shifted to mortuary and was kept on natural snow for avoiding any damage to the body.
The situation turned tense, when the students of Bhaderwah campus demanded airlifting of the deceased’s body to his native place as the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed due to landslide and snow, sources said.
The administration expressed its inability of providing chopper facility for shifting the deceased’s body to its native place, sources added.
However, administration assured that an ambulance will be provided for shifting the dead body by road to Jammu. In the meantime, Indian Air Force (IAF) extended their help and shifted the body to the native place of the deceased in its chopper, sources maintained.
Talking to Excelsior, one of the students of Bhaderwah campus of Jammu University told that medical negligence is the reason behind the death of Vinod Singh Manhas.
“Had the staff, medicine and oxygen been available in the SDH, such kind of mis-happenning would not have taken place”, he added.
He further alleged that the staff of SDH remains absent and no one enquires about the same, adding that life saving drugs and oxygen is the necessary things, which should be available in the hospital. But due to apathy of the administration, all these necessary things are not available in SDH, he added.
“When we demanded chopper for shifting the body of the deceased to his native place from the administration, they provided us ambulance. Don’t they know the vehicular movement on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is suspended due to landslide and snow”, they added.
When contacted SSP Doda Mohammad Sharief Chouhan said that a case under Section 174 CrPC has been registered at police station Bhaderwah and investigation started.
