VIJAYPUR,  Mar 12: Cautioning people against communal and disruptive elements, Sr Vice President National Conference and Member Legislative Assembly Surjeet Singh Slathia on Wednesday called for unity among secular forces to strengthen harmony and consolidating peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We have to preserve our composite ethos by foiling the anti-people machinations of parties like BJP and PDP which have resorted to their time tested ploy of dividing the people in the name of religion and region”, Mr Slathia said while addressing a huge public meeting here this afternoon.
The Sr Vice President said that National Conference has all along fought these elements and will continue to do so in the larger interest of the State and its people. He said his party has espoused the cause of the people, irrespective of caste, creed and colour even during most testing times. “History stands testimony to sacrifices offered by National Conference for keeping the flag of secularism aloft even when hostile winds swept the State”, he said and vowed that those trying to impede the harmonious growth of the society will be given a befitting reply. He said that his party believes in social justice, equality and dignified way of life for the people of all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and this mission will continue with renewed vigour.
He also dwelt on the achievements registered in different sectors during the past five and half years of Omar Abdullah led Government, saying the growth, development and return of normalcy has unnerved the opponents. “In a fit of desperation, they have resorted to vitiating the atmosphere by raking up frivolous issues with nefarious intent of hoodwinking the public opinion”, he said.
Mr Slathia made a particular mention of schemes launched for inclusive development and welfare of the people besides bringing legislations to enforce accountability in the administration, making it transparent and responsive to the needs of the people.
