IMPCC asks media units to keep themselves abreast with MCC

JAMMU, Mar 11: The Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) meeting today reviewed functioning of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) media units and other constituents of the committee in Jammu and Kashmir.
In view of the recent announcement by the Election Commission of India, the IMPCC Chairman Obaidur Rehman impressed upon the media units to keep themselves abreast of the salient features and provisions of the recently announced Model Code of Conduct.
There is a need to apprise ourselves with the guidelines and work towards a common goal of election awareness at this vital juncture when the democracy is going for a revamp, he added.
Rehman further said that during the elections, the media has a responsibility to inform the masses about election related issues with a view to strengthen democracy and uphold national interests within the parameters set by the Election Commission of India.
Assistant Station Director, Doordarshan Kendra Jammu Anjali Sharma, appraised the chair about the activities of DDK Jammu especially the Live coverage during the recently held Indian Science Congress 2014 at Jammu.
Assistant Director News, DDK Jammu, Sanjit Khajuria also highlighted the role of the news unit in focusing on issues related to social upliftment of the common people and elections process going on at district level.
The Chairman also underlined the need to highlight NOTA (None Of The Above) provision to be introduced in the Electronic Voting Machines in the upcoming elections.
Assistant Director News, Doordarshan Kendra Jammu and Radio Kashmir Jammu, Tariq A. Rather informed about the upcoming sensitization workshop to be organized for PTC and RNU staff members that will cover Model Code of Conduct besides Do’s and Don’ts to be observed by the media during the various phases of election.
Programme Head of Radio Kashmir Jammu, Ravi Magotra, Assistant Director (M&C), Press Information Bureau Srinagar, Ghulam Abbas, Media & Communication Officer, Press Information Bureau, Jammu, Sunil Koul, Dy. Director, State Information Department, Afshan Masood, Representative of Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Shakeel Baksh and representative of Commercial Broadcasting Service Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Maqbool Ahmad provided insights about the main activities of their respective units.
Prominent among others who also participated in the meeting were Director (Engg) Doordarshan Kendra Jammu, Ravi Mansotra Field Publicity Officer DAVP, Abdul Manan, Incharge S&DD, S.K. Pandit, PRO Defence, Jammu and PRO Defence, Srinagar.
