Sir,
Do we anywhere listen to where have building of much publicized model schools gone in our state? Does any political leader talk seriously about the poor infrastructure in our government run schools? Are projects schemed for school development and providing of modern educational techniques completed in time or they just remain on papers? These questions need hardly any answers other than in the negative. We have now forgotten those dreamy 19 model schools as it is more than a period of five years since the project was taken in hand. Central assistance and advice both are given no special attention forcing the people send their wards into the private schools at costs usually comparatively higher.
The scheme of “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan” is not taken seriously as not even 3 percent of targeted construction of toilets in primary and upper primary schools has taken place. The teachers teaching in such schools are not being given periodic trainings and their teaching skills upgraded and then their performances evaluated. The annual increments and choicest postings should be linked mainly to their performances in imparting good education to the students. Library facilities need to be provided in schools and sports virtually now neglected due to paucity of space is a glaring injustice with the health and the personality development of the students. The Government and the opposition both need to take some time out of their schedule of politics and do some turnaround in bettering the lot of governmental schools.
Yours etc
