JAMMU, Mar 26: Apni Party Provincial president for Jammu and former Minister, Manjit Singh today expressed his dismay over the longstanding issues of the Displaced Persons (DPs)/ refugees which remained unresolved for last seven decades by the successive Governments of the traditional political parties in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was addressing a meeting of the party organized by the Provincial president of Women Wing, Jammu, Pavneet Kour at ward number- 1, in Simbal Camp, Jammu to discuss issues faced by the DPs in J&K.
During the meeting, a prominent youth leader, Amandeep Singh along with others joined the Party in presence of Manjit Singh and other leaders of the Party. While welcoming him into the Party fold, the former Minister hoped that his joining would strengthen the Party at the grass root level.
Manjit Singh educated participants about the policy and programs of the party for the equitable development of all the regions by protecting as well as providing opportunity to the local population in jobs.
He said, “There is desperation among the people regarding their unresolved issues especially the refugees and the unemployed youth. However, the authorities remain unmoved.”
Singh said the final package amount that was sanctioned by the then Govt of India has not been released in favour of the DPs/refugees although only Rs 5.5. lakhs have been released out of the total sanctioned package.
He said that the DPs continue to remain under the economic constraints and have no hope for the sustainable future of their children in the wake of the non-serious approach adopted by the authorities regarding the release of the final package. He said DPs have a huge population, which is settled in the border belt of Jammu plains and the LoC. They have been constantly facing negligence from the authorities, and this would further create a hostile situation. The Govt must release pending package in their favour.
Pavneet Kour also spoke on the occasion and referred to different developmental issues in Simbal Camp area.
The meeting was also attended by SC State president, Bodh Raj Bhagat, State president Apni Trade Union, Ajaz Kazmi, Provincial president Minority Wing Balbir Singh, Provincial president, Transport Union, Tirath Singh and others.
