JAMMU, Mar 16: Tempo Traveller Owners Union (TTOU) J&K today urged the authorities of the Union Territory to safeguard the livelihood of local tempo owners/drivers.
Addressing a press conference here today, Kali Dass Verma, president of the Union said that the local tempo owners/drivers have been suffering losses as tempos of other states, particularly of Punjab and Haryana, are picking local tourists/travellers with impunity.
Verma said that this grave issue was discussed threadbare by members of the Union in its meeting held in his chairmanship on February 18 at Union Head office, Jammu. He said thereafter, they made a request to Transport Commissioner Jammu and RTO Jammu to take effective steps to restrain tempos of other states from picking the tourists/travellers on any of the routes of J&K.
“However, when nothing was done by the authorities to safeguard livelihood of the local tempo owners/drivers, the Union members again met RTO Jammu on March 15 with their concern and the assurances were made by RTO Jammu that they will do the needful very soon,” Verma stated.
Showing trust on the authorities, Verma again appealed them to do the needful for the protection of interest and livelihood of all local tempo owners of J&K by imposing ban on picking tourists/travelers by the tempos having registration numbers of other states from all routes of J&K. He also urged all tempo owners/drivers of J&K to be united for the protection of their interests.
