JAMMU, Jan 16: Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) and Ttransport Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan inaugurated Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) which is being observed under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas here today.
The fortnight with slogan “Save Fuel, Save Money, Save Environment” is being celebrated from today onwards to January 31throughout the country.
GS Chib, Director CAPD, Girish Ranjan, State Level Co-ordinator, Oil Industry, J&K and other senior officials of the oil industry were present on the occasion.
Ramzan emphasized the need of energy saving for a secure future. Elaborating features of the programme, he said that the main objective of celebrating the fortnight is to create awareness about various fuel saving tips in various fields dependent on oil and gas, including transport, industries, agricultural and household sectors.
He stressed on achieving the goal by launching mass awareness programmes in urban as well as rural areas.
Minister also stated that Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight symbolizes the efforts of the Government to promote savings of its hydrocarbon related energy resources which are non-renewable in nature.
He also called upon oil companies to streamline the LPG system and stressed the need for strict implementation of home delivery of LPG in the State.
He also asked the oil companies to expedite the process for opening LPG gas outlets proposed for uncovered areas of the State.
Minister also informed that the Government was strongly pursuing the case of raising the cap on subsidized gas cylinders from 9 to 12 in a year with the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
State Level Co-ordinator, Oil Industry, Girish Ranjan also addressed the gathering and highlighted the functions of the department regarding conservation measures for the welfare of the people and nation.
Among others present were managing director, JKSRTC JS Tandon, representative of various oil companies and large number of senior citizens.
