SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Authorities in Baramulla have kick-started the process of setting up the District Hub for Empowerment of Women also known as Mahila Shakti Kendra aimed at empowering rural women with various opportunities apart from providing women an interface for availing the benefits of various schemes.
Officials said that these centers are functioning in various other districts already and these centers are meant to provide one-stop convergent support services for empowering rural women with opportunities for skill development, employment, digital literacy, health, and nutrition.
In this regard, the district administration has invited applications to fill 4 posts which include Specialist in Financial Literacy years of experience, Accounts Assistant, and two other posts for which the necessary process has been started.
As per the officials, the Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme will provide an interface for rural women to approach the Government for availing their entitlements and for empowering them through awareness generation, training, and capacity building.
It is to be noted here that the MSK in the district is going to act as a link between local Administration, Government, and the Ministry of Women and Child Development for implementing Women Centric Schemes and programs of the Government.
District Hub for Empowerment of Women under MSK is envisaged to work at various levels while the National level UT level structures will provide technical support to the respective Governments on issues related to women. “These Kendras will also give a foothold to women empowerment schemes including BBBP,” the officials said.
The MSKs, officials said, are set to play an instrumental role in awareness generation regarding various Government schemes as well as social issues that have an impact on the lives of women in the District.
The official said that women empowerment is multi-dimensional and the services provided under MSK will be built by leveraging available resources of a variety of schemes of the government at the district/block level. “MSK will provide an interface for rural women to approach the Government for availing their entitlements.”
As per the guidelines that govern the functioning of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women under MSK, it will aim to empower women at all levels to develop their natural abilities to their fullest potential and equip them to excel as leaders of their workplaces and communities across all spheres of society.
While deliberating about the vision of the scheme under which the MSKs will be set up in Baramulla, the officials said that it envisages the evolution of human society and that there is equality of opportunity for women and men in access to education, health care, work advancement and representation in political and economic decision-making.
“It also aims to end all forms of discrimination against women and girls should be ended and that the contributions of women, as well as men, are recognized and respected,” they said.
Further, the MSKs will also strive to inspire and motivate women to leave behind the boundaries imposed on them and explore goals that stretch them to new possibilities.
“By establishing the setup, it is aimed to expand the capability of women to the highest level of personal and professional excellence and make them confident about their capabilities and to create paths of self-determination.”
