JAMMU, Sept 20: In the wake of controversy over death of Jammu University Associate Professor Chander Shekhar Chandra, National Commission for Scheduled Castes today visited the JU campus and met with the agitating SC employees, who are demanding CBI probe into the case.
Dr Anju Bala, Member of the Commission, reached JU campus this morning and also met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai and senior functionaries of the university administration. She also visited Prof Chander Shekhar’s wife and assured her necessary action over the case.
A joint delegation of the SC employees in Jammu University from teaching, non-teaching and officers’ cadre met with the Commission Member and submitted her written memorandum demanding CBI probe into the death of Chander Shekhar for a fair investigation into the case. Alleging procedural lapses by the university administration in suspension of the deceased, they also sought action against the persons responsible for the same.
As job for wife of Prof Chander Shekhar was also demanded, the Commission member is learnt to have told the delegation that she had already taken up the issue with the JU Vice-Chancellor who had assured positive action in this regard.
Meanwhile, on the 9th consecutive day of its ongoing pen down strike for CBI probe into death of Prof Chander Shekhar, the Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) today announced to take out a peaceful march to the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu on September 21.
Pertinent to mention that Prof Chander Shekhar had ended his life by hanging himself in Psychology Department of JU during working hours on September 7, soon after his suspension over allegations of sexual harassment.
