JAMMU, Aug 18: Doctors at Indian Spinal Research Centre gave new lease of life to seriously injured Lt Colonel Santosh. The Army officer was posted in Jammu and Kashmir when the mishap happened.
The Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) of his right knee were completely damaged. As a result it was not possible for the officer to even move a bit. The problem started affecting his positivity and he started feeling insecure of the future. It was then his superiors advised him to consult medical doctors at India’s most trusted Indian Spinal Injuries Center. The doctors examined the problem and decided to operate on the army officer.
After the successful operation, Lt Colonel Santosh not only started walking but could also perform his routine exercise.
Dr Vivek Mahajan, Senior Consultant Orthopedic at ISIC, who treated the Lt Colonel said, “His injury was very serious. During the attack the ACL and MCL of his right knee were badly torn. There are four ligaments in the knee including the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL), Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL). ACL is a group of muscles located inside the knee, while MCL is a group of muscles that connects thigh bone to the shin bone.”
After checking his MRI report we decided for surgery. The operation was successful and he can not only walk now but today he is able to complete 5 kilometer brisk walk besides doing exercises such as single leg plank, weighted squats, and single leg balance. Back problems are very common these days as people live a sedentary life and people sit in wrong postures for long hours.
This is one of the main reasons for different kinds of bone-related problems. However, there are problems also due to accidents. To create awareness about common problems and preventive exercises, ISIC is organizing an OPD at Medicare Nursing Home, Gandhi Nagar in Jammu from 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM on Sunday, August 21.
During the OPD, Dr Ankur Nanda, Senior Consultant Spine Services and Dr Vivek Mahajan, Senior Consultant Orthopedic at Indian Spinal Injuries Center will examine the patients and offer right counseling to them.
