Srinagar, Sept 10: Blaming politicians for perpetuating conflict in the Jammu and Kashmir, Janata Dal (U) National President, Sharad Yadav, today said all the politicians are responsible for deteriorating situation here.
“We (politicians) are responsible for the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Our attempts to bring peace in the State have failed,” Yadav said while addressing a press conference here.
Taking a U-turn from his earlier statement that militancy erupted in Kashmir due to election rigging in 1989, Janata Dal (U) National President today said that his statement was distorted by the media here.
“India is a federal country. Whatever your (separatists) demands, you can assert them through ballot. Who stops you from demanding your rights.  Everyone in the country is demanding his rights through democratic ways,” he said.
Yadav also said that Zubin Mehta’s musical show should not have been held in Jammu and Kashmir, but in Delhi.
On the communal violence in UP’s Muzzafar Nagar, Yadav said that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh should call immediately a National Integration Council of all political parties to find a way to restore peace in UP.
“Since there have been communal violence in the country time and again, it is high time PM calls all stakeholders and secular workers in the council to defuse the tension in the UP and a precedent is set so that such clashes are no repeated,” Yadav said.
