JAMMU, Sept 9: Physically-challenged students today took to the streets protesting against the sexual exploitation of mentally-challenged girls in Rotary Inner Wheel Home for Mentally Retarded Girls at Channi Rama.
Led by Deaf and Dumb School Principal Roshan Bhan, over 200 students of different schools carrying banner and pla-cards took out a protest rally from Shaheedi Chowk to Press Club, demanding capital punishment for those involved in this heinous crime.
The protest rally started from the School for Deaf and Dumb Shaheedi Chowk and after passing through various sites culminated outside the Press Club where they held a protest demonstration against the sexual abuse of the mentally retarded girls in Rotary Inner Wheel Home for Mentally Retarded Girls at Channi Rama.
Various Associations which included Association of Parents of Hearing Disabled (APHD), National Federation of Blind (NFB), Deaf and Dumb J&K, Samaj Kalyan Kendra (DDJKSKK) and Disabled Care Foundation (DCF) participated in the protest rally and in a single voice demanded high level judicial probe into the matter besides capital punishment to the culprits.
Interacting with media, Patron APHD Roshan Bhan said that the sexual abuse of the mentally retarded girls at Rotary Inner Wheel Home for Mentally Retarded Children Channi Rama has hurt the sentiments of the society and could not be tolerated at any cost.
“As per the medical report the girls were being raped for the last three years and how it is possible that the social organizations running the home were unaware of this crime”, he added.
“Everyone associated with the Rotary Inner Wheel Home for Mentally Retarded Girls at Channi Rama is involved in this heinous crime and in order to save their skin, image and funding they are claiming to be gullible”, he said.
Bhan further said that a high level judicial probe should be carried out into the matter to bring the faces involved in this heinous and barbaric crime into the limelight so that they could be punished adding that nothing less than capital punishment would be acceptable.
“We demand capital punishment for those involved in this heinous crime and the accused should be tried in a fast-track court”, he added.
