SRINAGAR, Jan 24: Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, today said that security forces will ensure peaceful conduct of Republic Day functions in Srinagar and other district headquarters of Valley.
Speaking to reporters at SK Stadium on the side-lines of a full-dress rehearsal parade ahead of Republic Day, IGP said that Police, army and CRPF have been conducting security drills including area domination, drone surveillance in Srinagar and district headquarters since past one week.
“All security arrangements have been put in place and all sensitive areas have been covered and we will ensure a peaceful Republic Day in Srinagar and all district headquarters,” he said.
The security forces are conducting frisking and surprise checks across Kashmir valley with main focus on Srinagar and other sensitive areas.
The security forces are keeping tight vigil around vital installations in and around the city as well as other district headquarters.
Security has also been strengthened around the venues for the Republic Day functions, including around Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here where the main function in the Valley would take place.
A thick layer of security has been thrown around the venue – a few kilometres away from the Lal Chowk city centre here – and the area has been sanitised.
Security forces have been asked to remain alert and more check-points have been erected and in the city.
Authorities sealed off the road stretch from Radio Kashmir Crossing to Sonwar Crossing for several hours today as full-dress rehearsals took place at the stadium.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole unfurled the tricolor over the mast and took salute at the March-past.
On the occasion, various contingents of security agencies took part in the parade including J&K Police, J&K Armed Police, Indian Reserve Police, Central Reserve Police Force, SSB, Home Guards, Fire and Emergency and NCC.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner said that all arrangements for the parade have been put in place. “Today, I have reviewed a full-dress rehearsal and every arrangement has been reviewed. As far as security arrangements, there seems to be no issue as security forces including police and CRPF have been busy with area domination since past one week,” he said.
